I'd be happy to help you make your next speaking engagement one that will be remembered fondly in the minds of audience members for years to come. I can do so in any number of the following ways:

Speechwriting

After asking you my standard set of questions about your audience you'll be delivering your speech to, the message you want to get across, time allotted, and the format of the speech, I'll ask you a few more questions to get to know your speaking voice and the tone you want to convey.

Then I'll ask for all of the research materials you have compiled as a stepping-off point to conduct my own research efforts.

After digesting this information and "doing my thing" to find the common narrative kernel, I'll thread that story throughout the speech, guiding the audience all the way from "Good Evening" to "Thank You."

I always deliver the finished product on-time, with two sets of revisions built into my fee quote.

Speaking of fees, every project is different. Depending on the scope of the project, i.e. whether you want me to create the PowerPoint deck, how much research is involved, speech length, etc., my rates usually come in somewhere between $50-200 per run minute. I always do my best to ensure that whatever I do makes sense for the client's budget.

"Punching Up"

If you already have a speech, but think it's lacking a certain...something...I can help by "punching it up." That's industry-speak for "making it sound better," adding humor where appropriate, and otherwise making the speech really sing.

Sometimes speeches just need a quick edit, and sometimes they need a complete overhaul. I'll be sure to let you know which you need before starting work on your project, and I'll adjust my quote accordingly. Generally, I charge about half what I'd charge to write the speech myself to punch up an existing speech, since it can often entail a lot of work.

Delivery Coaching

Not content with just getting "the words on the page?" I also can help coach you on delivery, based on a number of classical rhetorical principles dating back to the great orators of Ancient Greece, as well as techniques from Broadway directors, famous litigators, and my own tips and tricks I've developed to help you stand out from the rest of the boring, stilted stiffs that you might find at a conference. My rate for delivery coaching is a flat $60/hour, plus any travel expenses I may incur should you want me to travel.

No Speech is Too Small!

Keep in mind, I do everything from wedding vows and toasts, to eulogies, to big, corporate and political speeches given to thousands. I'm a sucker for making peoples' special days even more special, so even if you think my rates are too high for your special occasion, drop me a line at dj@djswriting.com or call me at 314-541-3405 with a brief description of what you need, and I'll get creative in terms of a bargaining or other arrangement to try to make it work within reason.
