About Me

Hey, I'm D.J. I'm here to help you give better speeches, whether you're a do-it-yourselfer, or need some professional help and guidance.

Ever since I was little, I've enjoyed the rush I've gotten from standing up in front of a crowd and delivering a really great speech. In sixth grade, I gave a Star Trek-themed graduation speech that received numerous laughs and a long standing ovation when I was finished.

I was hooked.

Since then, I've written speeches that have been given at educational seminars, Non-Profits, The Missouri State Senate, and the U.S. House of Representatives, among other places that have to remain confidential for client reasons.

I've always loved the storytelling aspects of writing and delivering speeches, whether it's that perfect pause that gets the audience leaning in on the edge of their seats to hear more, or a one-liner delivered completely "out-of-the-blue" that kills, and pulls your audience in, begging to hear more.

I aim to give every one of my clients, and everyone who stumbles across this website, that same satisfaction from being able to move people to think and act based on a rousing bit of oratory.

I have my B.A. in Government from Dartmouth College, and my J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. I practiced at a big firm for almost three years, but the only projects that felt personally rewarding involved (surprise) speechwriting or oratory.

Since then, you may have heard me on various sports talk radio stations in St. Louis, as well as Arizona and Baltimore, discussing the NFL and other major sports. To this day, I still cover the St. Louis Rams for insideSTL and CBS Sports 920 AM. I've written and published a number of books, including Jesus Was a Time Traveler, Hack: The Complete Game, Rogue, and The Big Book of Hobby Ideas. This past spring, I co-edited an anthology of science fiction and fantasy short stories (Quantum Zoo), which has been on several Amazon Top-10 seller lists, including Science Fiction Hot New Releases, Science Fiction, and Fantasy.

I'd love to chat about how I can help you write and deliver an amazing speech at your next speaking engagement--feel free to call me anytime at 314-541-3405 or email me at dj@djswriting.com. Mention that you got the number from this website, and I'll give you a 20% discount off your first TWO projects, as my way of saying thank you.
